Peeping Tom suspect to be sentenced

Nearly six months after he was arrested, the man accused of secretly videotaping female students in an Oaks Christian school locker room is scheduled to be sentenced in a Van Nuys court.

Shiara Davila, spokesperson for the Los Angeles district attorney's office, said the prosecution expects that Hilario Hernandez Medina will be sentenced Oct. 17 to three years in prison.

Medina, 39, is being held in a sheriff's department detention center in Castaic.

Arrested last May, Medina was originally charged with eight misdemeanor counts, but as part of a plea agreement the charges were dismissed and the case was refiled as a felony because the victims are minors, Davila said.

Medina appeared in court on Oct. 1 and pleaded no contest, which is tantamount to a conviction, Davila said.

Medina was working as a maintenance man at the private Westlake Village school when a fellow employee discovered a video camera wrapped in a shirt on a maintenance cart. Medina had allegedly videotaped 18 female students in various stages of undress. The video was unclear, making it difficult for authorities to make out the victims' identities.

"We are grateful that the DA has worked so diligently on this case, and we are pleased that justice will be served," said Jeff Woodcock, the Oaks Christian headmaster.
