Forum set for school board candidates
      The Conejo Council ParentTeachers Association will host a School Board Candidates Forum from 1 to 3 p.m. Sun., Oct. 5 at the Thousand Oaks High School Performing Arts Center on Moorpark Road. Richard Cupp, Pepperdine University professor of law, will moderate the forum. He will ask questions raised by a panel of community members and take questionfrom the audience.

Candidate for school board wants greater emphasis on technology
      In a couple of weeks, Peggy Buckles will be a grandmother, as her 27-year-old daughter—a Conejo Valley Unified School District graduate—is due to give birth. And as excited as Buckles is about that role, she's also looking forward to the chance to serve in another capacity— CVUSD board member.

Financial aid night coming
      Workshops on how to obtain financial aid for college will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 18 at the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road; Wed., Oct. 22 at the Simi Valley Library, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road; and Thurs., Oct. 23 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road.

Public works scholarships available
      Scholarships are now available for college students who participated as interns or parttime employees at any public works agency or engineering consulting firm in Ventura County during any part of 2008. The deadline to apply for the scholarship, administered by the Ventura County chapter of the American Public Works Association, is Oct. 31.

St. Paschal Baylon to host festival
      St. Paschal Baylon will hold its annual festival from 6 to 10 p.m. Fri., Oct. 17 and noon to 10 p.m. Sat., Oct. 18 and Sun., Oct. 19 at the church on the corner of Janss and Moorpark roads in Thousand Oaks. The event will include carnival rides and games, a rock climbing wall, food and drinks, entertainment and a silent auction.
