Fewer students the fault of trustees who left
Meadows parents get it. Mike Dunn gets it. Unfortunately, the other four members of the Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education don't. Retiring board members Dolores Didio and Dorothy Beaubien must take responsibility for the decline in enrollment as parents have become unhappy with our public schools.

Likes Andersen for school board
I'm so very pleased to see John Andersen running for Conejo Valley Unified School District school board this election season. John is a man who truly walks and talks the life. His family values work hand in hand with his goals and achievements in our community.

Council members should tighten their purse strings
After reading the article "Health benefits can be permanent for council members," I was appalled at the benefits the council members and dependents receive for a minimum five years of service.

Wants a new sign
I was told today that come Jan. 1, the Countrywide sign will come off the City Hall building. I was thinking that perhaps a smaller, more down-to-earth company might want to associate itself with the City Council in Thousand Oaks—and that would be Porta-Potty.

The thought of President Palin scares her
Imagine Sarah Palin as our president. President Palin. Commander in Chief Palin. It was politically irresponsible for John McCain to select a running mate with absolutely no national or international job experience.

Wouldn't vote for Palin under any circumstances
In her Sept.25 diatribe, columnist Elizabeth Kirby never mentioned the candidate's name. It's Sarah Palin, the "Ovarian Candidate." It has a ring to it. A divisive, non-unifying ring. Therefore, are the rest of the runners "Testicular Candidates"? I truly hope that, as Kirby says, her "brain is forthcoming.

Environmentalists leave him cold
As you may know, the unemployment rate in California is now 7.7 percent. This is at recession levels. The housing and financial crises have hit us hard and aren't about to abate. We're helping to drag the whole country into recession.
