'Cuts for the Cure' comes to Westlake
      John of Italy Salon & Spa will host the third annual "Cuts for the Cure" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 12 at 2772 Townsgate Road, Westlake Village. The event is a fundraiser for Alexandra's Lil' Piggies, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

      A free bariatric support group will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tues., Oct. 7 and 21 at a location in Thousand Oaks. The group is for people considering weight-loss surgery and those who have had the surgery. Joan Berl-Brooks, marriage and family therapist, will facilitate the group.

Helping the environment in Conejo Valley
     IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers RECYCLING OLD ELECTRONICS- Bill Steck of Thousand Oaks unloads a television for Guy Smith of Westlake Village during the Los Cerritos Middle School E-Waste Recycling event. Saturday's event raised money for the school's computer lab and was win-win for the community because residents could safely dispose of electronic equipment that's dangerous if it enters the ecosystem.
