Cabrillo Music Theatre presents 'The King and I'

Cabrillo Music Theatre kicks off the new 200809 season with Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical, "The King and I," starring pop star Deborah Gibson, from Oct. 17 through 26 at the Kavli Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Cabrillo's artistic director Lewis Wilkenfeld will direct, with Darryl Archibald as the musical director and conductor.

The production will feature the original Jerome Robbins choreography of the "Small House of Uncle Thomas" ballet, recreated by Irene Cho. Heather Castillo will provide additional choreography and musical staging.

Anna, a young widow, sets out for a new life in the Far East to teach the children of the King, a powerful and inquisitive monarch.

The show contains such classic tunes as "Getting to Know You," "I Whistle a Happy Tune," "Shall We Dance" and "Hello, Young Lovers."

Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

A post-show discussion with cast, staff and audience will follow the 2 p.m. performance Sat., Oct. 18.

Ticket prices range from $38 to $74.
