•Book Arts Experience will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sat., Oct. 4 at the Newbury Park Branch Library, 2331 Borchard Road. Participants will create a handmade book reflecting the themes of "What is the What" by Dave Eggers. The class is taught by artist and teacher Marcia Moore. All materials and tools will be supplied. Registration is required.
•DAFRA, a West African drum and dance ensemble, will perform at 2 p.m. Sun., Oct. 5 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road. The concert will feature West African music, dance and costumes. The audience will participate by learning some songs, rhythms and dance steps. The performance is appropriate for all ages.
•A screening of "Hotel Rwanda" will be held at 6:30 p.m. Fri., Oct. 17 at the Grant Brimhall/ Thousand Oaks Library. The film tells the true-life story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who housed more than 1,000 Tutsi refugees during their struggle against the Hutu militia in Rwanda. The film stars Don Cheadle, Nick Nolte and Sophie Okonedu and is rated PG-13.
