Canyon Cowboys (2-1) at Thousand Oaks Lancers (2-0) Friday, 7 p.m.
      Like Wall Street, the Buena High defense needed a bailout plan. This time, however, there was no relief in sight. Helpless against a mauling Thousand Oaks offensive line, Buena allowed Lancer senior running back John Lister to rush for a school-record 307 yards on 24 carries last weekend at TOHS.

      Outlook: Get ready for threeto-seven yards and a cloud of FieldTurf. This matchup features two teams that want to pound the football on the ground. NPHS junior tailback Cameron Roberson did great filling in for injured Chris Brown last week by rushing for 201 yards and finding pay dirt four times during the Panthers' 44-14 mauling of Rio Mesa.

      Outlook: Through the first two games of the season, one thing is abundantly clear: Westlake can put points on the scoreboard. In dropping a 42-40 shootout at home to Saugus in Week 2, the Warriors rolled up 653 yards of total offense, including 388 passing yards from senior quarterback Ben Conlin.

Lancers drop league opener, 15-11
      If Tuesday's boys' water polo game between Agoura and Thousand Oaks was any indication of what the Marmonte League is going to be like in 2008, then fans are in for a thrilling journey. The Chargers, coming off an undefeated season in league and a CIF-Southern Section Division IV title, defeated TOHS 15-11 at home in both teams' first Marmonte game of the year.

Tennis event at Sherwood has star power
      After winning the U.S. Open and bringing home bronze medals from Beijing, Bob and Mike Bryan are set to host the first-ever event for their new charity, The Bryan Brothers Foundation. The Bryan Brothers' All-Star Tennis Smash will take place Saturday at Sherwood Country Club.

Apex soccer squad finishes its season in style
     SUMMER FUN—The Apex U-13 girls' soccer team just wrapped up a successful summer tournament season, winning the Islands Classic in Camarillo, reaching the finals of the Thousand Oaks Classic and the Simi Valley Labor Day Invitational, and the semifinals of the North vs. South Classic in San Luis Obispo. The squad is composed of girls from Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park. The team will compete this fall in the Silver Central bracket of the Coast Soccer League. Oaks Christian, La Reina in top form early on
      A trio of Tri-Valley League girls' volleyball teams has cracked the top 5 in the latest CIF-Southern Section Division II-A coaches' poll released Monday. Oak Park High is ranked third in the division, followed by Oaks Christian (No. 4) and La Reina (No. 5).

Homecoming festivities set at CLU
      The California Lutheran University Alumni Association will celebrate Homecoming and Family Weekend from Thurs., Oct. 9 to Sun., Oct. 12. The festivities officially begin at 8 p.m. Oct. 9 with the homecoming coronation ceremonies at Lundring Events Center. The 2008 homecoming king and queen will be crowned as part of CLU's long-standing tradition.
