WHS to host casino night for music program
      The Westlake High School Instrumental Music Boosters will host a casino night at 5:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 4 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 5801 N. Kanan Road, Westlake Village. The event will feature craps, roulette, blackjack, and Texas Hold 'em poker, and dinner catered by Cisco's Mexican restaurant.

Church's jazz concert coming to Newbury Park
      The EV Free Church will host a jazz fundraising concert on Fri., Oct. 3 at the church, 999 Rancho Conejo Blvd., Newbury Park. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. The concert will feature Los Angeles jazz musician Jonathan Dane. The evening will include a live auction. Proceeds will help establish a Family Resource Center in Moscow, Russia.

      MB2 Raceway has opened a new consumer racing complex at 1475 Lawrence Drive, Newbury Park. The MB2 Raceway Corporation transformed a 60,000square-foot industrial building, once home to Northrop, into a high performance kart racing circuit and consumer entertainment venue.

Conejo Players present 'Alice in Wonderland Jr.'
      The Conejo Players will present "Alice in Wonderland Jr." from Sat., Oct. 4 through Sun., Oct. 12 at the theater, 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. Performances are at 1 and 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A 7 p.m. performance will be held Fri., Oct. 10.

CLU students volunteer
      California Lutheran University students will volunteer in Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties as part of the school's annual Service Day on Sun., Sept. 27. The "One Day of Service" event reflects CLU's mission to educate students to be committed to service and justice in a global society. Faculty, staff and alumni will also participate.

T.O. student is a scholar
      Kevin Bowen of Thousand Oaks was selected as one of 19 Presidential Scholars of California Lutheran University at the start of the 2008-09 year. The program, established in 1997, recognizes freshmen of outstanding academic caliber who embody the university's educational and social goals.
