Political sign placement must follow rules Candidates for public office may post political signs for the Nov. 4 election beginning Sept. 20. The signs must be taken down no later than Nov. 11. Political signs are signs displayed before an election to identify a candidate, campaign issue, election proposition or related matters. The city asks that all candidates for public office, business and commercial property owners, and residents keep in mind the best interests of the community through compliance with the Thousand Oaks Municipal Code for placing political signs. The city's desire is to maintain an attractive appearance in the city while providing voter awareness. Signs may not be placed on public property, including parks, open space areas or freeway ramps. Signs may not block or interfere with pedestrian walkways or vehicle sight at driveways or intersections. Signs may not be attached to traffic signs, traffic signal poles, street light poles, street trees or any other structure in the street right of way. For questions or complaints regarding signs in the public right of way, call (805) 4492499, ext. 0. For compliance-related issues on private property, call (805) 449-2300. |
