Luxury-fest to raise funds for cancer research

Cure in the Canyons II, the luxury lifestyle-fest for breast cancer research, will take place Sun., Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Four Seasons Hotel, Two Dole Drive, Westlake Village.

The event is presented by Angeleno and Shape magazines, Revolution Tea, Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village and California Health and Longevity Institute to raise funds for medical and clinical research.

The event features cabanas with a variety of health and beauty vendors, skin care, yoga classes, facial relaxation treatments, and free beauty and spa treatments including manicures and massages.

Local wines, gourmet foods, chocolates, teas and nuts will be available for sampling.

"There is a fine line between altruism and activism," said event chair and Cure in the Canyons founder Karin Purvis. "'Who will you help today?' is as much of a challenge as it is a mission statement."

Shannon Tweed and Sophie Tweed Simmons of the television show, "Gene Simmons Family Jewels," will serve as honorary hosts.

Tweed, Tweed Simmons and Lorraine Toussaint, starring in "Saving Grace" on TNT, will host a tea party for breast cancer survivors in the Rose Garden from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Chef Soerke Peters of Chef is Chef will prepare foods for the party, and Revolution Teas will be served.

Gene Simmons will film an episode of his show at this year's event along with Toussaint, the celebrity host.

The Club Car, a men's ultralounge with premium beverage service and spa treatments, will also be available.

All guests will recieve an Envirosax, a reusable gift bag full of goodies.

Guests who carpool to the event will each receive a gift from Guess Tote. Everyone must arrive together in the same vehicle and appear at registration to receive the carpool incentive. The gift is limited to the first 250 carpoolers. More than 700 guests are expected to attend the event.

General admission is $55, which includes gift bag. Valet parking is $10 and self-parking is $5.
