Community activists deserve praise for changing the board of education
Democracy is alive and well in Thousand Oaks. Why? Because our friends, De Anna and Dan Goldberg, corrected a perceived injustice to their son by using the political system to make their displeasure known and to bring about a big change in the composition of the school board.

Residents need self-storage or city wouldn't consider it
I'm writing in response to Robert Nguyen's Sept. 11 letter, "Self-storage is a waste of space." His points are riddled with ignorance. The first point he makes is that, with shrinking unemployment, the development will only employ two people.

I live in Westlake Hills, which is across the street from the location of the proposed self-storage facility mentioned in last week's letters.

Sees four priorities in T.O. council race
I'm writing to voice my opinion about the election for our City Council and asking for people running to please deal with the following issues of importance: 1. public transportation 2. affordable housing 3. boards and commissions, letting citizens be a part of our government—participation is important—and 4.

Likes Republican's opponent in race for state Senate
A clear message from the Republican National Convention is that Republican voters respect character. Wants a woman for vice president, but not Sarah Palin
It's a shame the first woman nominated by the RNC is so hard to support. I can't accept Sarah Palin's denial that global warming results from human activities, when overwhelming scientific evidence shows this to be true. Her close connections to Big Oil raise concerns for the health of our planet, and her husband is employed by British Petroleum.

Palin remark sends the wrong message
In my opinion, GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin shouldn't have publicized her 17-year-old's pregnancy. If asked, she should have said, "It's none of your business." To say she and her husband are "looking forward to being grandparents" sends a strange message and is confusing to other teenagers.
