Same-sex marriage discussion coming

The Rev. Marvin M. Ellison, the Willard S. Bass Professor of Christian Ethics at Bangor Theological Seminary in Maine, will present a free talk on "A Religious Defense of Marriage Equality" at 7:30 p.m. Fri., Oct. 3 in California Lutheran University's Samuelson Chapel, 60 E. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks.

The event is the inaugural Jim Dekker Memorial Peace Lecture, a tribute to a United Church of Christ member and Ventura County grand jury foreman who died in 2006.

Ellison earned a doctorate from Union Theological Seminary. He is the author of several books on same-sex marriage and sexuality.

The lecture is sponsored by CLU's Center for Equality and Justice, Religion Department, Segerhammar Center for Faith and Culture, Office of Campus Ministry, United Church of Christ in Simi Valley and Progressive Christians Uniting of Los Angeles.
