What's up with that?

JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers ITS CLOSING MAY BE A GOOD THING—Before the Burger King on Hampshire Road closed, the Ventura County Environmental Health consumer food protection inspectors made a visit. During a routine inspection, it was noted the hand-washing facilities weren't accessible by food handlers, and the equipment, floors, walls and ceiling were unclean and in an unsanitary condition, according to a July 24 inspector report. Unsanitary and unhealthy conditions were also noted in another routine inspection report filed earlier in this year. Burger King spokesperson Michelle Miguelez from the corporation's national headquarters in Miami said the restaurant closed on Sept. 1 because the franchise agreement ended and gave no other reason. She didn't know, she said, of any plans to reopen it. She had heard, she said, that the restaurant was located near a shopping mall that closed down. In September 1988, Burger King opened next door to what was then a Kmart store. It's scheduled to become a Home Depot.
