6 to be inducted into Cal Lutheran Hall of Fame

Six California Lutheran University standouts will be inducted into the Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame on Sat., Sept. 13 at Lundring Events Center on the CLU campus.

The following inductees will be honored for their outstanding contributions to intercollegiate athletics during the sixth annual Induction Ceremony at 6 p.m.:

Al Kempfert (Missoula, Mont.), baseball/basketball/

football, Class of 1967

Kempfert lettered in all three sports. He played defensive end on the 1966 Kingsmen football team that finished 8-2 overall.

With 1,131 career points and an average of 10.4 points a game in basketball, he was the team's Most Valuable Player in 1967.

In baseball, Kempfert earned an MVP and Captain's Award, and, as a pitcher, had 20 career wins and currently ranks second in CLU history with 21 complete games pitched in two seasons.

He received the George Carter Chi Alpha Sigma Christian Athlete Scholar Award.

Charles McShane

(Montesano, Wash.),

football, Class of 1976

A 225-pound defensive tackle, McShane quickly made his mark after coming to Cal Lutheran in 1974.

His many awards include National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) District III First Team All-American, NAIA District III Player of the Year, United Press International Little AllCoast and third team Associated Press Little All-American.

After graduation, McShane was first drafted in the 12th round by the Dallas Cowboys and then played as a linebacker with the Seattle Seahawks for two years.

Greg Osbourne (Glendale),

golf, Class of 1984

Osbourne made the All Conference team three times and was voted Most Valuable Player for two of the years.

He was the NAIA District III Individual Champion in 1984 and earned All-America honors after finishing fourth in the NAIA National Golf Tournament despite playing in pain with a debilitating injury.

Osbourne, the former president of United States Golf Corp., is currently the head golf coach at Glendale Community College, head PGA Pro at DeBell Golf Course in Burbank and has a recurring role as Greg on the NBC show "Las Vegas."

Tracy "Little" Schuetz (Newbury Park), volleyball/

softball, Class of 1997

Schuetz, who holds the school career record for digs, was named First Team All-Tournament in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Championship and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Player of the Year twice.

In softball, Schuetz holds the single-season record for runs scored, and her honors include playing second base on three SCIAC championship teams, making First Team All-SCIAC for two years and All-West Region First Team and Second Team AllAmerica in 1996.

Mike Sheppard (Mason, Ohio), football/baseball,

Class of 1973

A member of CLU's 1971 NAIA National Championship football team, Sheppard was chosen Outstanding Lineman in the championship game, earned AllDistrict III honors in 1971 and 1972, and was named to the 1972 All-Lutheran College Team.

In baseball, Sheppard was the team's captain his senior year and was selected to the NAIA District III team in 1972 and 1973. Named Outstanding Senior at CLU, he went on to play minor league baseball and then coached college and NFL football.

He is currently the Cincinnati Bengals' wide receivers coach.

Mike "Spider" Webb (Thousand Oaks), basketball,

Class of 1977, MPA 1982

Webb, a former guard, holds the school record for career assists with 507, set a singleseason assist mark and is the seventh most prolific career scorer in Kingsmen history with 1,341 points.

He averaged 12 points per game and 115 assists per season during his four years as a Kingsman.

A retired parole agent with a doctorate in public administration, Webb is currently an adjunct faculty member in CLU's Criminal Justice Department and a professor in Oxnard College's Addictive Disorder Program.
