Dunn's agenda is scary for children in public schools

Every time I think Mike Dunn has reached his "idiocy quota," he surpasses his efforts with yet another display of egotistical stupidity. His last letter was an example of just that ("Dunn defends his decisions on the board of education," Sept. 4 T.O. Acorn).

First, since when do teachers - all of us making up the California Teachers Association- not want parents involved? The paranoid assertion that CTA is threatened by Dunn's "pro-parent" bias is foolish. Has Dunn ever had a conversation with a teacher, besides his wife? CTA's "agenda" is to meet the academic needs of its students.

What's yours, Mr. Dunn? Pushing Christianity in schools, promoting homophobia, deluding yourself into thinking you're on some kind of moral crusade to save children from liberals?

Secondly, Dunn states that teachers are trying to "indoctrinate" children. I don't even know what that means, but again, it's very paranoid.

Dunn opposes CTA's "agenda," which isn't what he asserts it is, and "supports parents teaching their kids values," not us brainwashing-teachers. So what should I have done when one of my first-graders recently told me that her mother had been arrested for shoplifting and it "wasn't fair because she didn't know there were hidden cameras"?

I'll admit that I did push my liberal values on that child, but I figured she should know that stealing is wrong, hidden cameras or not.

Was I out of line, Mr. Dunn? I guess you're forced to keep an eye on us teachers; you never know when we might push our values in class.

Problems in public education have nothing to do with CTA, and what does the ACLU have to do with anything?

Get over your union paranoia. Unions, CTA and teachers have little power. If we actually did, we could fix all problems ourselves- and get rid of a talking head like Dunn.

No, Mr. Dunn, I don't dislike you because I'm a "corrupt ACLU-supporter who wants to indoctrinate children."

I dislike you because you're a troublemaking nitwit who's simply bad for our otherwise extraordinary CVUSD schools. Tina Aschenbrenner Thousand Oaks
