Local students are scholarship winners
      •Evan Green of Thousand Oaks was awarded the 2008-09 California Grocers Association Educational Foundation's Albertsons Kids for College Scholarship worth $1,000. Green will attend UCLA this fall. His high school accomplishments include superintendent's honors, and wind and jazz ensembles.

Elks offer scholarships, do good deeds
      The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge No. 2477 offers several college scholarship programs to local students. The lodge hosts an annual Most Valuable Student scholarship contest with top awards ranging from $4,000 to $60,000 over four years through the Elks National Foundation.

Troop No. 133 captures the bronze
      Girl Scout Junior Troop No. 133 of Thousand Oaks recently received the Bronze Award after a year of hard work in recycling. Their service project was a community book drive. The girls collected 3,626 books, which they sorted, boxed and delivered to a special needs school in North Hollywood.

      La Reina High School graduating classes with a graduation year ending in a 3 or 8 are planning reunions for the weekend of Sept. 7 through 9. All alumnae are invited to an 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. picnic on Sun., Sept. 7 on the La Reina campus.
