Democrats jumped into the deep sea of liberalism

As a Republican and an American, I must congratulate Barack Obama on receiving the Democratic nomination.

We can all be proud that he's broken the color barrier; we've come a long way, and it's good for the country.

The only problem is he's the wrong African American and stands little chance of winning.

He has a shady past, questionable past and present associates, and lacks the experience and accomplishments that would qualify him to be commander in chief. His vision and game plan for the country has its roots in diehard socialist principles.

Let's not forget that one of his earliest mentors was Frank Marshall Davis, an admitted member of the Communist Party of America.

His solutions revolve around higher taxes, bigger government, more regulation, protectionist trade policies and a foreign policy that puts the world first and America second. Democratic leaders like Pelosi, Dean, Soros, moveon.org and other liberal apologists must be thrilled.

They envision a sweeping shift to the radical left this election, and it's not going to happen.

The country is not there, no matter how hard they try to push it in that direction. This is a centrist country, and the Democrats have made a fatal tactical mistake by not borrowing a page from Bill Clinton's success; a moderate that can appeal to Dems, independents and even some Republicans.

Look for a major shake-up in the leadership of the Democratic Party when Obama loses.

Dean will be the first to go.

What were the Democrats thinking when they made him the head of the party? Kevin R. Shanley Westlake Village
