Carpenter, Henderson to meet on college gridiron
Two of the most productive Marmonte League football players in recent memory will be on opposite sidelines Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks do battle with the Arizona State Sun Devils at Tempe, Ariz.
Arizona State is led by senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter, who played for both Newbury Park and Westlake high schools.
Northern Arizona's top running back is junior Alex Henderson, a Calabasas graduate.
Carpenter has started 31 consecutive games for ASU, and his team enters the contest ranked 15th in the Associated Press preseason top 25 poll.
During his time behind center for the Sun Devils, Carpenter has completed 586-of-958 passes (61.2 percent) for 7,998 yards and 65 touchdowns.
Carpenter is a twotime AllPac10 honorable mention selection.
Henderson has rushed for 1,913 yards and scored 14 touchdowns during his first two seasons with the Lumberjacks.
In 2006, the former Coyote ran for a career-high 265 yards at Eastern Washington.
He's eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark on five other occasions as well.
Other area athletes expected to suit up for the contest include ASU backup quarterback Samson Szakacsy (Camarillo), as well as NAU's Conrad Meadows (Moorpark) and Anthony Evans (Moorpark College).
