Marmonte League preview: Boys' water polo
      The Royal High boys' water polo team wants what Agoura has, and, no, it's not just a Marmonte League title. The Highlanders wouldn't mind capturing their own league title for the first time since 2005, but what head coach Steve Snyder is really looking forward to is a CIF-Southern Section Division IV championship plaque.

Injury at Royal opens things up in league title chase
Marmonte League preview: Boys' cross country
      An injury to Royal High's top cross country runner, junior Travis Edwards, has left the race for the top spot in the Marmonte League wide open. Royal head coach Ryan Luce declined to identify the type of injury, although the coach did admit it will keep Edwards out for a couple of months and possibly the remainder of the season.

Solomon wins Punt, Pass & Kick competition
     HE CAN KICK—Matthew Solomon, a third-grader at Sycamore Canyon School in Dos Vientos Ranch, won the 8/9 age division at the Pepsi NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition during the Dallas Cowboys' training camp in Oxnard. Matthew will advance to a regional competition in October.

      Two of the most productive Marmonte League football players in recent memory will be on opposite sidelines Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks do battle with the Arizona State Sun Devils at Tempe, Ariz.

Tri-Valley League cross country squads look strong again
      Clearly, the cross country teams at Oak Park High, Oaks Christian and La Reina have their standards set a little higher than most schools. The Oaks Christian girls' squad claimed the CIF-Southern Section Division IV state championship last season.

Silver still sweet for USA water polo
      It wasn't the gold medals they'd coveted, but silver will certainly suffice for the United States men's water polo team. After training at Oaks Christian and Cal Lutheran in the months leading up to the Summer Olympics, the U.S. squad, led by head coach Terry Schroeder, a Westlake resident, finished second to powerhouse Hungary in Beijing.

Montana named starting QB at Oaks Christian
      Nick Montana, the son of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, has been selected as Oaks Christian's starting signalcaller to begin the season, head coach Bill Redell has confirmed. Montana, a junior who transferred from De La Salle in Concord, beat out Tony Macarena for the No. 1 job.

      The California Interscholastic Federation State Office has begun distributing a monthly electronic newsletter designed for parents of the more than 735,000 high school studentathletes in the state.
