Has heard enough from bashers of school district Am I the only parent who's had enough of the bashing being done to our school district? In an Aug. 7 letter to the Acorn regarding the closure of Meadows, Mr. John Hollister states, "Our options are to go to private school or transfer out to a neighboring district or form Meadows Arts and Technology Elementary School (MATES)." Is he kidding? Our children can attend one of the many other excellent elementary schools in our district. Every school in the Conejo district will give our children an outstanding education. Is Meadows the only school in our district worthy of our children? Are the children going to all of the other Conejo schools receiving a substandard education? Absolutely not. I'm shocked that Mr. Hollister seems to feel that there's no other school in the entire district that's good enough for our children. I wonder if Mr. Hollister saw the district's API scores published in the Acorn earlier this year. Sixteen of the 20 elementary schools scored 840 or higher. Doesn't that tell us something about all the elementary schools in CVUSD and the awesome education our children are receiving? No matter the scores, they are all educating our children so that they can and are doing great things at the middle and high school levels. And let's not forget that the middle and high school scores reflect students from all of our elementary schools. We have an excellent school district with many wonderful teachers and staff that are dedicated to teaching our children at every school in our district, no matter what the API scores are. I don't base my decision on a school's scores because I know our children will get a top-notch education at any school in the district. If we, as parents, stay involved in our children's education, they will succeed no matter what school they attend. I would like to give the teachers, administration and school staff at all of the schools in CVUSD the thanks and credit they deserve for the superb education my child is receiving and for a job well done.
