City and residents should work harder to be green The article which reported Thousand Oaks as one of America's greenest cities really amused me. It reminds me of similar articles that brag about U.S. medical care being better than that of Zimbabwe. Being 48th out of 50 is nothing to brag about, and we really need to do better. Portland, Ore. has 4.5 times our population and they should definitely be proud of what they've accomplished. We can legitimately brag about our low crime rate, but our record as a "green" city really needs work. Fewer Humvees and Escalades and more Priuses, please! We need to get Waste Management's cooperation in recycling more of our plastics. The city could also use a program that lowers the cost of solar cells so that residents as well as commercial enterprises are encouraged to use them. This is a great city, so let's make it even greater! Samuel Greenschlag Westlake Village |
