Two new candidates filed papers in the final hours of last week's July 13 deadline for the two seats open on the Conejo Valley Unified School District school board.

Incumbents Dolores Didio and Dorothy Beaubien, who have served on the board for 25 and 20 years, respectively, decided not to run for reelection.

Scott Lamp, a research scientist, and Douglas Nickles, who listed his occupation as parent, are the last two to enter the race, bringing to eight the number of locals now running for the spots.

In addition to Lamp and Nickles are past candidates Jon Anderson, a business owner; and Peggy Buckles, a teacher and former businesswoman; as well as Betsy Connolly, a veterinarian and college instructor; Dennis Hatland, a teacher; Julie Svitenko, a community volunteer; and Marlon Williams, a driving instructor.

The election is Nov. 4. Didio and Beaubien—the current board president—will vacate their seats in mid-December. The two new members will be sworn in at the Dec. 16 board meeting.
