Waste a wish
      It all started in 1982 when I was 6 years old. I got into trouble and had to take a halfhour timeout. I remember thinking a half-hour meant an hour and a half, figuring that "half" was in addition to the hour. So when I sat down on the couch to do my stretch of time, I knew I was in for a long haul.

Many parents may not know that as their children get older some childhood shots, including the shot for whooping cough, can begin to wear off after five to 10 years. This leaves some preteens and teens at risk of getting sick and missing school.

      Megan Irene Braun of Thousand Oaks graduated from Radford University with a master's degree in psychology at the end of spring semester. The university is in the New River Valley near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Southwest Virginia. There are 9,122 students in seven colleges.
