New blood needed in school board

The Thousand Oaks Acorn story dated Aug. 7, "It takes deep pockets to run for City Council" was truly an eye opener. I never realized that a candidate would spend over $100,000 to gain a seat on our City Council. Would someone spend such money to gain a school board seat? I can think of better ways to spend that much money.

With the November elections approaching I do have one way we can put $100,000 to better use. If each of the voters in our community would be willing to donate $1 or $2 to a retirement fund for Dolores Didio and Dorothy Beaubien, we could get some new blood in the school board.

Imagine what a relief it would be to offer a golden parachute to these longserving board members. We could call it a corporate buyout or even a golden handshake. What a wonderful world we live in today.

Had these two board members been around 150 years ago, we would have just run them out of town on a rail. John W. Clay Thousand Oaks
