New blood needed in school board
The Thousand Oaks Acorn story dated Aug. 7, "It takes deep pockets to run for City Council" was truly an eye opener. I never realized that a candidate would spend over $100,000 to gain a seat on our City Council. Would someone spend such money to gain a school board seat? I can think of better ways to spend that much money.

World peace and public education both in disarray
In response to Arleigh Kidd, executive director of the teachers union, and the cost of education being a key problem, I understand from your carefully drafted opinion letter in your bottom line, do we need an educated leader who understands true religion to set our students on the right path?

Old-timers have a right to gripe, but Dunn's got to go
First, in defense of Marilee Ullmann and her expressing the truth about changes we've undergone in Thousand Oaks, anyone who's lived here for a significant period of time knows it's not the place it used to be. I've lived here for over 30 years, and while there are still many great things about it, there's absolutely no comparison between today's T.O.

The water problem needs more than lip service
The front page article of the July 31 issue of the Thousand Oaks Acorn, ''Despite pleas to save water, demand is going up locally," projects a likely water crisis in the near future. But what are the water supply officials locally and statewide doing about it? It seems to me that their crisis prevention responses are feeble or nonexistent.

Both sanitation agencies work for the good of all
This letter responds to the July 24 T.O. Acorn article, "Oak Park man to run for seat on board of Triunfo Sanitation District." In the article, Mr. Paule alleges conflicts of interest involving how the Triunfo Sanitation District ("Triunfo") conducts business with the Ventura Regional Sanitation District ("VRSD"), including issues regarding management of funds.

Pet peeves, Part II
I recently read a shortsighted list of pet peeves in our wonderful community newspaper. In one sentence, the writer referenced a song, "I Have a Little List.

Likes restaurant's environmentalism
I work in Westlake Village and buy takeout orders regularly. This morning, I ordered food from the Plug Nickel in Westlake, and they're using cardboard instead of Styrofoam food containers. I think this environmental consciousness- and bit of nostalgia- is worthy of note.
