Owners of dog disappeared when it most mattered Today I was driving down Thousand Oaks Boulevard at 11:40 a.m. toward Lindero Canyon on my way to work and saw cars blocking the street. I drove a little farther and realized these good Samaritans were trying to keep a dog from running into busy T.O. Boulevard. So I also tried to keep the dog from running into the street when our worst nightmare came true. The little white poodle ran into the street and was hit. A nice young man literally took his shirt off his back, wrapped up the little dog and took it to a nearby veterinary hospital. I was shaken up and really disturbed that I witnessed a dog being run over. So I decided to find out if the little dog made it and if somebody claimed it. My point I'm trying to make here is that the "owners" somehow found out exactly where the dog was taken to and said they would be there to pick it up. The man who called never showed up, and then the wife called later in the afternoon and asked the vet "Who's going to pay the bill?" Basically they discarded the dog like an old piece of cloth. Now the dog will have to go to a shelter. It had no tags and couldn't be traced to its rightful owner. How can anyone do that do a helpless, living thing, let alone "man's best friend"? Inhumane and disgusting. By printing this letter, maybe the dog will get the loving owner it deserves. I have a full house of my own already or I would take it.
