Suggested motto for Thousand Oaks: 'Love it or leave it'
      In response to "Our city isn't what it used to be" written by Marilee Ullmann in the July 10 edition of the Thousand Oaks Acorn , yes, Ms. Ullman, Thousand Oaks isn't what it used to be; it's better! How dare you complain about one of the most attractive and desirable cities in Ventura County, as well as the state of California.

Dunn explains his political position
      Here's what makes me tick: I grew up in the 1950s eating graham crackers dipped in milk while watching television on a 1956 Packard Bell with wooden knobs. Superman, Roy Rogers, Billy Graham Crusades, Ozzie and Harriet, Mighty Mouse, Disneyland, Lawrence Welk, Lassie and the Untouchables with Elliott Ness were favorites.

Gallegly is not in touch with his constituents
      It's often said that our elected officials are elected "for the people, by the people," which I have always interpreted to mean that they're elected to represent the people's needs and in their best interest.

Owners of dog disappeared when it most mattered
      Today I was driving down Thousand Oaks Boulevard at 11:40 a.m. toward Lindero Canyon on my way to work and saw cars blocking the street. I drove a little farther and realized these good Samaritans were trying to keep a dog from running into busy T.O. Boulevard.

Pet peeves shared
      About a month ago my wife and I attended a wonderful production of "The Mikado" at the Theatre on the Hill, the site of the old city hall. In one scene, a character cites a list of his pet peeves; the title of the song is "I Have a Little List.

Child labor laws really do deserve a second look
      I agree that we should revise our child labor laws. However, in response to the "Opinion" on July 24, I resent our children being referred to as "freeloaders" and as the "answer to the high cost of gasoline." Our "kids" have not "been living on Easy Street for 70 years.
