Church raising funds to fix pipe organ

The Reuter Opus 2087 pipe organ The Reuter Opus 2087 pipe organ Ascension Lutheran Church is raising funds to complete the installation of the church's Reuter Opus 2087 pipe organ.

In 1989 when the organ was installed in the sanctuary on Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks, the congregation lacked funds to build it to the complete specs as desired. Many pipes are still missing from the instrument's middle range.

The congregation and community are working within a timeline to ensure that the organ will be completed in the near future.

The pipe organ is a cultural asset in the community, attracting artists and visitors to the church. Members of the Guild of Organists and organists from other churches in Southern California have attended concerts at the church.

The instrument is played at community events, including baccalaureate programs for Oaks Christian and Thousand Oaks high schools, as well as at concerts, weddings and various services.

Internationally known artists Paul Manz, John Walker, Wilma Jensen and Samuel Soria from Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles, have played the organ.
