A group of men and women are enjoying themselves on a local ballfield thanks to an adult softball league organized by the Goebel Senior Adult Center in Thousand Oaks. The league consists of players 50 years or older who meet on Tuesday and Friday mornings for pickup games and on Wednesday nights for organized league contests. More ... On Tuesday, Thousand Oaks had a chance to wrap up the Section 1 title but lost to Dos Pueblos, 12-0. It was TOLL's first loss in tournament play. The two teams played again Wednesday afternoon for the section championship at Moorpark. A final score wasn't available prior to press time. More ... Rivals by nature, Thousand Oaks and Conejo Valley Little Leagues have decided to join forces to help fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)- also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Beginning today, the two leagues will host the fourth annual Strike Out Lou Gehrig's Disease Tournament, which lasts through the weekend. More ... The 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars from Thousand Oaks Little League made it to the championship game of the Section 1 tournament at Village Hills Little League. I don't like watching professional golf. Playing the sport every once in a while is fun, but on television it's about as exciting as "Steel Magnolias." Maybe it's because the game is slow, but that can't be right because I love baseball. More ... Conejo Simi Aquatics, a club serving the Simi Valley and Conejo Valley areas, announced that Gardner Howland has been appointed head coach and director of swimming for the team.
