After receiving a record number of nominees for this year's classified employee outstanding achievement award, a local school district has honored two of their most prized employees.

Debbie Hanna, a planning technician, and Michael Buckley, maintenance lead dispatcher, were Conejo Valley Unified School District's honorees.

Annually, Hanna provides enrollment projections for all grades, numbers used by both instructional services for staff planning and business services for support planning. She works closely with the city of Thousand Oaks to ensure plans for future developments are included in those projections.

Phil Nelson, CVUSD's director of planning and facilities, said his department members consider themselves "very fortunate" to have Hanna on their team.

"Debbie is an outstanding employee whose accomplishments and contributions to the district are immeasurable," Nelson said. "She is one of those people who seem to be able to do everything and do it well."

Hanna is also an administrator who plans and monitors student flow for the district schools. She had a particularly busy year as part of the facilities goals committee, collecting information during the difficult process of school closure.

Buckley is credited for leading CVUSD through a new Webbased work order, collaborating with the consultants and all the users of the system. He also designed and installed a new media system for the district's board room.

"Mike's commitment and dedication is second to none," said Nat Johnson, director of maintenance and operations. "He supports staff, students and our mission to service at every level with efforts that can only be described as exhaustive. He is an expert in his field and has been affectionately characterized by staff as "The Wizard" because of his never-ending knowledge base."

Buckley recently took on the position of interim facility supervisor of buildings.

"He has excelled at these added duties and responsibilities while juggling many previous duties," Johnson said. "Mike continues to find the time to contribute to major projects and the overall success of the maintenance and operations team."
