Photo caption was overly optimistic
      A photograph on the front page of your July 3 edition showed the work being completed at The Oaks and the caption ended with "When the holiday shopping season arrives, The Oaks will be filled with customers." You must have Nostradamus on your staff!

Day laborers should clean up after themselves
      If these day laborers are really looking for an honest day's work, why not let them show some responsibility by handling their own "janitorial" work at their pickup location? Why should we clean up after grown men? If they or those who hire them won't accept that responsibility, why should we?

      The Acorn's Independence Day edition had a great opinion piece reminding us all how fragile our freedoms are. Ms. Aschenbrenner, your thinking is three decades behind. You offer our growing country no new ideas for production and seemingly don't realize our prosperity, economy, security, etc. are all directly effected by energy.

      With more than 70 percent of Americans wanting to have oil drilled wherever it can be, where is John McCain? Do you see him on Fox News? Do you see him on the front pages of your local daily newspaper? Why isn't he taking an active role to bring to the attention of Americans that both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are blocking every effort to allow new drilling?

Local church was a great place to be on July Fourth
      Having grandsons with me over the Fourth of July posed an opportunity to seek some active celebration site for saluting America. As luck would have it, we headed up to Bethany Baptist Church on the hill in Thousand Oaks. Rumor had it that it was "the place to be" on July Fourth. Indeed, it was!
