      On behalf of Butte College, I'd like to thank those in your fire department who responded to the Humboldt Fire in Butte County. They not only saved Butte College from serious and devastating destruction, but they protected our communities we all live in.

Our city isn't what it used to be
      Face the fact: Thousand Oaks has lost its innocence. It has succumbed to the ideology of today: the lust for power, the focus on self and the quest to have more. Materialism trumps education, divisiveness is the tool for gaining control and anything goes, just to win and have more. When this (happens), respect for others is lost.

Many helped make ArtWalk an enormous success
      Thanks to Countrywide Bank for lending us their grounds for ArtWalk 2008. With the economy in a downturn, it was nice to get out in the beautiful weather and see the striking work of all the artists from California and other states. For the people that came, "It was delightful," as one young man said.

Let's not forget to help China
      Dining at our local eateries (Brent's, Pickles, Mimis, In & Out, McDonald's, Chen's Chinese restaurant near the DMV, Lupe's, Mandevilla, et al), I'm overjoyed seeing plates filled with delicious foods of many varieties.We live in a horn of plenty, while hunger stalks many foreign lands. We have our own share of hunger in our own land of plenty.
