Advancing in the world of Girl Scouts
     BRIDGING THEIR WAY- Members of Girl Scout Troop No. 658 of Thousand Oaks, Catherine, Alyssa, Heather, Carina, Lauren and Elizabeth, recently used proceeds from sales of their Girl Scout Cookies to participate in an event hosted by the San Francisco Council of Girl Scouts to help them advance in Scouting. "Bridging" is the term used when Scouts advance from elementary school as "juniors" to middle school as "cadettes.

Potential entrepreneurs get business advice from SCORE
      The Ventura County chapter of SCORE, small business counselors, is experiencing increased demand this year as more residents are seeking counseling to start their own business. SCORE provided free faceto-face and Internet counseling and low-cost workshops in Simi Valley and at Oxnard College.

YMCA to show a movie
      The Conejo Valley YMCA will show a movie at 7 p.m. Fri., July 18 at the Y, 4031 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. The event will include games, snacks and a showing of "The Incredibles," rated PG.

Gilbert and Sullivan auditions planned
      The Ventura County Gilbert and Sullivan Repertoire Company will have auditions for "Patience" and "The Pirates of Penzance" from 1 to 5 p.m. Sat., July 12 and from 6 to 10 p.m. Sun., July 13. The audition location is to be determined.
