A man taking a walk discovered a pipe bomb in the parking lot of the old Home Depot, at the 101 Freeway and Ventu Park Road, at 6 p.m. Sun., June 29, authorities said.

The Ventura County Sheriff 's Department bomb squad was called and used a high-pressure water cannon to disrupt the device by breaking it apart, said Detective Erik Buschow, spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

"Someone had used a fireworks sparkler to light the fuse. The fuse had lit and burned down," Buschow said.

A pipe bomb looks like a short piece of pipe with threaded caps on each end with a fuse on it, the detective said.

"It looks suspicious, out of place."

Pipe bombs are extremely dangerous and can cause serious bodily injury or property damage, Buschow said.
