Area ballplayers make summer league All-Star squads

The Valley Invitational Baseball League will hold a pair of AllStar games at Stengel Field in Glendale on Sunday, and many local high school standouts will be competing.

The VIBL began play in 2000 and now includes 32 teams from the CIF-Southern Section as well as the City Section.

According to the website www.westranchbaseball.com/ vibl/, the league is designed to develop stars that will be playing for their respective high schools the following spring.

The South All-Stars will play the West squad at 3 p.m., while the North team takes on the East at 7 p.m.

The North AllStar squad includes Westlake High players John Travnic, Nick Truhan and Matt Wise, as well as Camarillo standouts Taylor Hansen, Kevin Minjares and Mike Erb.

The South team consists of Jordan Yallen and Jon Winnick from Calabasas, Jack Marder, Jimmy Sherfy and Connor Detko from Newbury Park, and Bryan Langlois, David Whitaker and Trevor Cohen of Oak Park.

The West team includes Landon Hunt, Elon Goldman and Ryan Watt from Moorpark, as well as Agoura standout Richard Stock.

The East team features Thousand Oaks' Danny Leon and Cody Casper.

The VIBL regular season runs until July 16. Postseason play begins July 18 and lasts until the end of the month.
