TURBOCHARGED- The SoCal Jets U-14 softball squad recently won a state championship in Menifee, finishing first out of 72 teams. The victory clinched a berth in the National Championship Tournament, which will be held in Midland, Texas, the first week of August. The Valley Invitational Baseball League will hold a pair of AllStar games at Stengel Field in Glendale on Sunday, and many local high school standouts will be competing. The VIBL began play in 2000 and now includes 32 teams from the CIF-Southern Section as well as the City Section. More ... After watching his players train in the Conejo Valley and abroad since January, USA Men's Water Polo head coach Terry Schroeder, a Westlake resident, announced his squad's 15-man roster- including a pair of alternates- for the Summer Olympics in Beijing, set to begin Aug. 8. The former WHS standout is conducting the Wynalda Soccer Academy through the summer with stops in cities around Southern California. The youth camp works to teach kids to have a positive attitude, a good work ethic, team work and to build a foundation of fundamental soccer skills. The Academy is located in Westlake. More ...
