Boys & Girls Clubs have summer camps The Boys & Girls Clubs of Conejo & Las Virgenes' summer program offers a variety of experiences for children in the area. Brothers Cinna, 14, and Goya, 13, recently attended the camp on their first day in America. The boys, who are of Iranian descent and lived in France for 10 years before their family moved to Luxembourg, are visiting the United States for five weeks to practice and improve their English. The brothers participated in the camp's "Speed, Quickness and Agility" class, where another camper singled them out as the fastest participants in the 30-yard dash. "We have played at places like the Boys & Girls Club in France but not in Luxembourg," said Cinna, who enjoys soccer and tennis. The boys, along with their mother, are staying with family friends in Thousand Oaks. The family's son Kevin, an eighthgrader at Colina Middle School, is looking forward to showing his friends the Janss Mall and other popular places in the community. Kevin, who has been a member of the United States Youth Volleyball League since first grade, is participating in the Boys & Girls Club's summer volleyball clinic for the third year in a row. "It helps me get better and better," he said. He is also taking drama and improv comedy classes at the club. The club's summer session runs through Fri., Aug. 15. All classes and activities are held from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the organization's Los Cerritos and Colina clubs in Thousand Oaks. |
