CLU offers vocal camp for teens California Lutheran University's music department is offering a summer vocal institute for teens ages 12 to 18. The program begins with an orientation on Sun., July 6 and ends with a performance on Sat., July 12. The program will cover vocal technique, solo repertoire, performance etiquette, interpretation and movement, and includes oneon-one coaching, master classes, and course work in technique, sight singing, and classical and musical theater repertoire. A karaoke pizza party is also scheduled. The institute will culminate in a series of formal recitals and an awards program. Up to three participants will receive $1,000 CLU music scholarships. The institute's master teachers will be Valencia Vas and Angela Rasmussen. Vas is a classically trained soprano who founded the Black Box Opera to introduce classical music to inner city children. Rasmussen, a mezzosoprano, teaches voice at CLU and sings for film projects and community functions. Rasmussen will perform at 7 p.m. Mon., July 7. Vas will perform at 7 p.m. Thurs., July 10. Both concerts will be held at CLU's Samuelson Chapel, and are free and open to the public. The institute is open to students of all singing levels.
