Trash pickup delayed July 4
      In observance of Independence Day, employees of Newbury Disposal will be taking the day off on Fri., July 4. Customers who normally have their trash and recyclables or green waste collected on Friday will have them picked up on Sat., July 5.

Ridership expected to increase on T.O. Transit buses
      New shuttlesized buses rolling through the streets of Thousand Oaks are air-conditioned, economical and ready to pick up and drop off passengers anywhere along the bus route. "People can flag down a bus almost anywhere and can ask to get off any place the driver can stop safely," said Mark Watkins, public works director.

Cupboards are bare at the Manna food bank
      Santa Claus came early to the Manna Food Bank in Thousand Oaks this year. He didn't fly on a sled from the North Pole, but came from Agoura Hills earlier this month and delivered $600 in goods from Costco to keep food on the shelves for a weekend.

Fundraiser to help leukemia victim
      A "Fight 2 Live" fundraiser has been planned by Rachel Shur, 28, to help her get her life back to normal, the way it was before she was diagnosed with leukemia days before Christmas 2006. The 6 p.m. Sun., July 13 benefit will include dinner, dancing and an auction to help the local leukemia survivor and her family.

      Law enforcement and the cellular phone industry have announced the next step in the expansion of America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response (AMBER) alert system. In 2002 the AMBER alert network was created to aid law enforcement in the safe return of child abduction victims.

Teens plant trees in T.O.
      The city of Thousand Oaks Municipal Service Center staff and 18 students from various Thousand Oaks high schools worked on Saturday to plant residential trees along Teasdale and Van Dyke streets. Grant funding of $57,000 was awarded to Thousand Oaks through the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and their Urban Forestry Grant Agreement.

Dog wash helps with pet rescue
      Newbury Park Feed and Pet Supply, 735 N. Wendy Drive, will host a Dog Wash fundraiser. It will raise money to recover the cost of transportation and care of dogs and puppies that are rescued from Kern County dog pounds. The animals are adopted by local residents and saved from extermination.
