Sports teams getting hotter as summer draws near
     GREAT SEASON- The Thousand Oaks Little League D'Backs captured the Junior Division championship, defeating the Moorpark Little League Yankees, 9-8, in eight innings last Saturday at Waverly Field in Thousand Oaks. The TOLL D'Backs completed the regular season with a 17-1 record. Sun sets for East in county All-Star game
West team beats East, 7-4, on Father's Day
      Paper beats rock. Rock beats scissors. Scissors beats paper. Camarillo High's Kevin Ball apparently beats them all. At the 11th annual Jim Parker Ventura County Baseball All-Star Game last Sunday, Westlake High's Zach Miller, coach of the East, decided to determine his starting lineup by games of paper-rock-scissors among his players.

Little League playoff teams may be stronger because of pooling talent
      The past two months the NBA playoffs have used the slogan, "There can only be one." For the first time in four years, the Conejo Valley Little League (CVLL) can say the same thing. Thanks to constant waiver requests made by CVLL president Rob McAfee, Williamsport, Pa.

Athlete from Newbury Park selected to All-Ivy League team
      Viewpoint alumna (class of 2005) Hayley Bock of Newbury Park, a sophomore at Harvard University, was one of six Harvard softball players selected to the All-Ivy League second team. Bock, a catcher for the Crimson, hit six home runs, tallied nine doubles and scored 32 runs, the ninth-highest total in Harvard's history.
