Jewish Center dedicates new Torah scroll
The Chabad-Thousand Oaks Jewish Center will dedicate and induct for ritual use a newly completed Torah scroll at 11 a.m. Sun., June 22 in Thousand Oaks.
The event will begin in a private home near Chabad where the scroll will be completed. This will be followed by a processional with live music and dancing as the Torah is escorted to the Chabad House at 2060 Avenida de Los Arboles.
The community is invited to join the festivities, which will also include a magic show for children and a buffet lunch.
The Torah scroll has been donated by Rabbi Mordechai and Ethel Bryski in honor of their parents. Their grandson, Thousand Oak's Rabbi Chaim E. Bryski, is named after his greatgrandfather Rabbi Chaim Elazar Hakohen Bryski of Chmielnik, Poland.
The Torah scroll contains the five books of Moses in the original Hebrew and is read several times each week during prayer. The more than 304,000 letters are handwritten by a scribe on parchment.
