Cal Lutheran offering numerous summer sports camps for kids

This summer California Lutheran University will be the site for youth athletic camps teaching a range of skills from baseball to water polo.

Here's a list of several camps being offered at CLU:

The All-American Water Polo Academy at CLUfor youths 14 and under will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 14-16.

USA Water Polo team members will be present and available for autographs and photos. Instructors will include collegiate AllAmericans and the CLU water polo coaches.

All-Sports Camps for boys and girls ages 7 to 14 will be held June 1620, June 2327, July 2125, July 28-Aug. 1, Aug. 4-8, Aug. 11-15, Aug. 18-22 and Aug. 25-29.

Full-day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and half-day (9 a.m. to noon) sessions are available. Activities change every hour and include basketball, softball, soccer, swimming, outdoor hockey, ultimate Frisbee and dodgeball.

Dance/Cheerleading Camps for high school students will be held July 18-20, July 24-27, July 31Aug. 3, Aug. 46 and Aug. 810. An instructors-only camp will be held June 12-16.

Organized by the United Spirit Association, the sessions will focus on squad-oriented cheers and routines, game-awareness training, and tools and techniques for getting the crowd involved.

Hoop Rat Point Guard and Perimeter Play Basketball Camp and the Hoop Rat Shooting and Individual Offensive Moves Basketball Camp are for boys and girls ages 7 to 17.

The Point Guard Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 2830. The focus will be on developing good communication, encouraging teammates and maximizing skills.

The Shooting Camp will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11-13. Instruction will focus on developing good form, shooting, moves off the dribble and a personal shooting workout.

The Lu Dawg Baseball Camps for boys and girls ages 6 to 14 will be held June 23-27, July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25 and July 28-Aug. 1 on the CLU George "Sparky" Anderson Baseball Field.

With personal instruction and games, the camps will emphasize fundamentals and techniques for building confidence and reducing risk of injury.

The Lu Dog Basketball Camp for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14-18, July 21-25, and Aug. 4-8.

The camps will offer individual instruction in ball handling, passing, shooting, defensive stance and other basic skills.

The National Kicking Camp for youths 10 and older will be held July 25-27. Led by coach Jim Power, the residential camp will focus on kicking, punting and long snapping.

The Quarterbacks and Receivers Football Camps for high school students will be held June 2124 and July 1215. The residential camp will train quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends and running backs in passing offenses.

Team Soccer Direct offers camps for boys and girls ages 5 to 18 from 9 a.m. to noon and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sessions will be held June 16-20, June 23-27, July 2125, July 28Aug. 1, Aug. 4Aug. 8, Aug. 11-15, Aug. 18-22 and Aug. 25-29.
