At Weathersfield Elementary School, learning is fun when you're 'knighted'
A DRAGON SLAYER- Weathersfield Elementary School student Kylee LaRue, 8, whacks a piñata dragon following a knighting ceremony at Conejo Creek Park North. Throughout the year, second- grade teacher Peter Joel teaches students about the journey to Intelligence Castle. The young scholars fight off Math Dragons, Paragraph Dragons and other beasts while collecting Dragon Dollars for making smart choices and completing good deeds. At the end of the year, students are "knighted." The highest Dragon Dollar awardees win special prizes during the daylong celebration. IRIS SMOOT Acorn Newspapers |
