Stagecoach Inn to host Pioneer Jamboree with old-fashioned fun

2008-06-12 / Community

Families throughout Conejo Valley are invited to step back in time at the Stagecoach Inn Museum during its Pioneer Jamboree on Sat., June 14 from 10 to 4 p.m.

The annual event is presented by the Conejo Valley Historical Society and offers a variety of fun activities for children of all ages and their parents.

Docents will lead tours of the museum and grounds, and storytellers will spin yarns about days gone by. Pioneer and Chumash games will be taught, and guests will be encouraged to participate in some oldfashioned fun, including rock painting, doll making, butter churning and lemon squeezing.

Children can experience life as a student during the pioneer days at the Timber School, a replica of the first school built in Newbury Park. They will also have the opportunity to learn the art of calligraphy and create music on simple instruments.

Families can pan for gold and dig for fossils at the site, said Jackie Pizitz, curator of education.

Food and beverages will be available.

The Stagecoach Inn Museum Complex is at 51 S. Ventu Park Road in Newbury Park. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for children. Parking is available on the north side of Ventu Park Road or on Susan Drive off of Lynn Road just past the Stagecoach Park.

For more information, call the museum at (805) 498-9441.
