Democrats create more problems than they solve

I had to laugh when I saw the full-page ad for Democrat Mary Pallant in the Acorn. The copy. "Had Enough?" and "It's Time for A New Direction" with her standing next to gas station gas prices is laughable for any Democrat.

The Democratic Party, which took control of the U.S. Congress in 2006, has done nothing to alleviate the escalating price of gasoline; in fact, their actions and policies only exacerbate the problem.

Recently the Congress, under the Democratic leadership, has done the following to alleviate the gas problem:

1. Sue OPEC for price fixing, etc. Boy, that will sure work. What legal or governmental authority does the United States have over OPEC? None.

2. Investigate big oil companies in an effort to tax them for "windfall profits." How does that help us get more oil? And chances are, the Democratic Congress would just squander those "taxes" to fund more half-baked social programs that don't work.

Neither of the above actions will produce one drop of oil.

What should happen is that the government should get out of the way and let the oil companies drill for oil domestically and decrease our dependence on foreign oil sources, plus allow building and expanding oil refineries, which hasn't happened for 30 years, thanks to the Democrats.

The Democrats won both houses of Congress in 2006 on the campaign promise of "Had Enough" and "Change." Let's examine what changes have happened since they took control:

In 2006: 1. Consumer confidence stood at a twoandahalfyear high; 2. Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon; 3. The unemployment rate was 4.5 percent.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we've seen: 1. Consumer confidence plummeted; 2. The cost of regular gasoline soared to over $4 a gallon and is skyrocketing toward $5 a gallon; 3. Unemployment is up to 5 percent (a 10 percent increase).

America voted for "change" in 2006, and we got it. And now Ms. Pallant wants to give us more "change." No, thank you! Bob Meisterling Thousand Oaks
