Pizazz summer camp coming
      Students entering grades one through eight are eligible to apply for the 16th annual Pizazz summer musical arts camp from Aug. 11 through 15 at the United Methodist Church of Westlake Village, 1049 S. Westlake Blvd. The camp is sponsored by the church's music ministry but uses a nonreligious arts curriculum.

Ventura College offers summer classes
      Ventura College Community Education is accepting enrollments for a variety of camps and classes for children as well as continuing workshops, seminars and classes for adults throughout the summer. Children's science camps include Techno Robo Transformers, Zero G Rocket Science, Wild Animal Physics, Fun Park and Craz-E-Cool Electro Inventors.

Sycamore Canyon opens gym
      Sycamore Canyon School will open the doors to its new gym with a dedication ceremony and celebration at 3:30 p.m. today, Thurs., May 29. Tours will be led by students and staff. Refreshments will be available, and presentations about the new gym will run throughout.

Honor students graduate from Moorpark College
      Nearly 300 students attended the Moorpark College Commencement held on the Campus Center Quad on May 15. The 2007-08 graduating class numbered 1,217 students. Of these students, 317 graduated in fall 2007 and 200 graduated at the end of summer session 2007.

Teacher honored
     CREATIVITY COUNTS- Lucia Lemieux, center, is flanked by Greg Sherlock of State Farm Insurance, left, and Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Charles Weis. Lemieux, a teacher at Los Cerritos Middle School, recently captured the Superintendent's Award for emphasizing fine arts in the classroom. Her students completed two projects involving fine arts with preand post-Civil War history. State Farm sponsored the award.

Short story contest held for high school juniors
      The California Arts Council and the Ventura County Arts Council are holding a short story contest for all Ventura County high school juniors. Students are invited to write a short story based on an event or time in their lives where their emotions were clear to them and they thought "I need to remember this.
