Measure B puts power with people

2008-05-29 / Letters

Citizens all across the country have risen up to protect their quality of life against overdevelopment and the harm it causes, such as traffic, pollution and crime. They've done so by simply removing the ability of corruptible politicians to approve large development projects against the will of the citizenry.

You see, career politicians get used to the perks of public office such as power, prestige, money, lavish parties.

Who pays for these perks? Just follow the money.

Have you ever been invited to a North Ranch or Lake Sherwood shindig? Look at the campaign disclosure statements for our city council members, except for Claudia Bill-de La Peña of course, and you'll see who they must pay their allegiance to.

It takes a special person to stand up to the deep-pocketed developers and their friends. Join me and thousands of other residents who really care about our community.

The sky is not falling here in Thousand Oaks as some say. It's still clear and brilliant blue. Let's keep it that way.

Don't wake up on June 4 and say, "Oops, I should have voted yesterday." Vote yes on Measure B. It gives citizens approval power on important development projects. What's wrong with that?
