Anything that reduces traffic is worth voting for

Are you tired of all the spin and Draconian messages going on about Measure B?

I decided to research and read all I could about the measure. I read the 4,000+ word Measure B analysis on Westlake Revelations. I read the full text of Measure B in the sample ballot pamphlets. I went to both sides' websites and read all the spin.

I found out that this measure is not between Do-it Center and Home Depot. This is about people taking control over traffic in their environment. Yes, I said it, it's about the traffic.

May I suggest an exercise, a reality check if you will, for people who aren't sure on how to vote on Measure B. Travel to Wendy Drive and the 101 Freeway offramp from anytime after Newbury Park High School lets out to around 6 p.m. Observe the traffic coming and going over the overpass. I can eat a hotdog before the traffic light changes.

Next, visualize what the traffic will be when the office buildings on the old Tally site open for business- - Billinger Office Park, 135,000 square feet. Then, how about the new Petsmart and Loehman's across the freeway, next to the Home Depot and Target. Then, consider the new Costco coming soon, as well as the remodeled shopping center on Wendy and Old Conejo Road. Will this intersection capacity be below C level?

My question is, how did the City Council approve all these buildings before Caltrans widens the Wendy overpass? How many years will that overpass be gridlocked?

I've lived in Newbury Park for 35 years, and my representative government is failing.

It's time for the people to have a little direct democracy. Measure B will let the people help the city government in determing projects that may affect the level of service on our streets.

I also trust people will be intelligent enough to vote for any hospital construction.

It may be too late for Newbury Park, but I will vote yes on Measure B.
