T.O. man directs documentary

Big Ship Films, a production company based in Thousand Oaks, presents the documentary "SS United States: Lady in Waiting" which will air on PBS stations this summer.

The local broadcast will be on KCET at 11 p.m. Sat., May 24 and 3:30 p.m. Sun., June 29.

Robert and Kitty Radler, both of Food Chain Films Inc., are coproducers of the film and Robert Radler serves as the director.

The one-hour documentary focuses on America's flagship, the SS United States, the fastest ocean liner ever built and the largest passenger ship built in this country. The ship was retired in 1969 and now sits moored and abandoned at a Philadelphia pier.

The film tells the ship's story as a premier means of transatlantic travel and anticipates what might be a new beginning for the vessel.
