Friendship Circle honors teen volunteers tonight

The Conejo Valley Friendship Circle will honor the 237 teenagers who volunteer to help special needs children with a ceremony tonight, Thurs., May 22 at the Westlake Village Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village.

A reception begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 7 p.m., teen presentations at 7:45 p.m. and a show by hypnotist Bruce Wilkoff at 8 p.m.

Presenting awards will be Agoura Hills Mayor John M. Edelston, Thousand Oaks Mayor Jacqui Irwin and Westlake Village Mayor Philippa Klessig.

The teens help children with Down syndrome, autism, ADD or other emotional or physical challenges by forming friendships, sharing activities and visiting with the children.

"Our teens come from middle and high schools in the Conejo Valley and west San Fernando Valley," said Eli Laber, Friendship Circle director. "They give of their time without hesitation, often on weekends and holidays, to bring happiness to their young friends." Admission to the event is free, although donations will be accepted.

For reservations, call (818) 865-2233 or send an e-mail to Staff@FriendshipCircleCA.com.
